The good news is, I’m actually feeling pretty good about myself right now, physically speaking. I like my hair and my glasses, and I’m buying clothes that fit me, which means people keep asking me if I’ve lost weight. And I take brisk walks with my dog many evenings, which helps me feel moderately in touch with my body.
The bad news is that last night I encountered kind of a perfect storm. Several factors ran together: my enjoyment of my hair, which is at a very put-up-able length; my freedom to shop online after Easter ended my Lenten discipline, and particularly my rediscovery of eBay after a long hiatus; my lingering grief over the breakage of my purple sparkly octopus hair clip, and the utter boringness of every hair accessory available in the local drugstores; and my feeling that, since I’m more or less going into show business, I need to make sure I have the right clothes and accessories….
… like sensible shoes, nice slacks, a few collar shirts (to be sought out once I’m cleared for ordination by my Standing Committee), and, well, a whole lot of really nice hair accessories.
I resisted the really pricey ones like this and this and this and this and this. But I found some pretty cool ones much more cheaply on eBay, and a couple of reasonably-priced and pretty metal ones elsewhere… and they kind of added up. Not to an alarming sum, but certainly to an embarrassing one.
Maybe I should ask Tilt to install some blocking software on my browser. No more late-night fancy hair-clip shopping for me. On the other hand, if anyone’s wondering what I’d like for a graduation gift…
