A true day off is very welcome, after a very busy week. Here’s a smattering of thoughts on what’s been happening.
1. I drove down to New Haven for an academic gathering, in which I was expected to appear in my scholarly persona. I did decide to wear a collar, but people still kept asking me where I’m teaching. Overall, it was a moderately pleasant, but odd, experience. (more…)
…. but this just takes me back so vividly to my college-teacher days. It reads exactly like a B-/C+ level paper (I was kind of an easy grader *sigh*) in which a student is trying to use lots of extra words and clauses, and many repetitions of the few points she has grasped, to camouflage her almost complete lack of knowledge about the subject matter at hand.
I am sitting in a rather cold kitchen, half-listening to some random NPR story about ducks that walk on fish. Funny old world. The kitchen is cold because the door to the garage is open. In the garage, Tilt is busily building us a bedframe. He’s been working along on it all day, and it’s actually very nearly together. It needs a center support, and a coat of some kind of stain or paint, and then we’ll finally have a bed. (more…)
Well, after an exciting Friday and Saturday and a really busy Sunday, we all got sick. By Sunday evening all four of us had (mild) colds – including the dog, who led the pack by getting a huge fit of reverse sneezing at 5:45am Sunday morning. (more…)
